Like many Americans abroad, I’ve been awaiting the election results with bated breath. One way to channel all of that anxiety has been to focus on what I personally can do to help my immediate community here in Paris, and, for me, that came in the form of making a comprehensive dining guide to Parisian lockdown: what you can order, where, when and how.
With all the shifting regulations surrounding this lockdown and the last, the restaurant industry has been forced to adapt many times over, and small businesses have suffered tremendously even as they continue to change their models. And frankly, in Paris, it hasn’t just been one single hard year for entrepreneurs, as the entire year before that, small businesses were significantly impacted by the gilets jaunes protests and the transport strikes.
All of the places listed here are small businesses and restaurants that I personally like and hope to see survive longterm. The list is organized by arrondissement so that you can figure out what take-away options might be available for pick-up locally, but many offer delivery options throughout significant swathes of Paris so scroll through each listing. The selection is weighted far more heavily towards the 11th arrondissement simply because that’s where I live (and it also happens to have a pretty high concentration of great restaurants.)
While Deliveroo and UberEats are great resources, you can figure out pretty easily on your own what’s available through those platforms in your area, so I have prioritized places that have their own independent delivery services (so the full amount of the money goes directly to them!) or that are doing on-site pick-up.
If you have the ability and the resources to support these special places, please do so! And if you are abroad, consider sending food from your favorite spots to your Parisian friends locked indoors right now, or buying a gift cards or merchandise for future trips (whenever that may be).
All of this information is subject to change (and new government regulations as they appear), so please double check the info on your own. And if you have places you love in your own neighborhood, or are a business owner doing your own deliveries, please reach out. I will keep updating this guide throughout lockdown as I learn more so keep checking back!
